Lately I’ve felt like the Lorax screaming into deaf ears…AI (you know the one, stop acting ignorant) is systematically destroying our environment and our humanity. No, that’s not an extreme take. I’ve been saying that for years and years….now we’re here and it will probably get worse. Just look at how easily food was destroyed because refrigerators can now be hacked. Profiles are fake bots. Ads are nearly inescapable. Everything is digital or a subscription that can be taken from you with zero recourse. Nothing is real.
I want to hold a CD. I want to watch a movie without paying for a subscription, getting ads, paying to remove the ads, and then having to rent the movie from the streaming service. Really…how fucking asinine is that? Yet people do it every single day without a thought. Well, I’m done.
I’m saying no. I’m taking control and stopping this dystopian shitstorm from entering my life. How? Well, highschool me did just fine so I figure I’ll go back to that.
Each month, starting in November, I’m going to target one area where technology has really gotten out of control or just completely botched it. Music, TV, computer programs, educational materials, toys, websites, phones….all of it, and then I’ll take it back to the last year I have good memories of those things. I’m unplugging…or at least intentionally plugging in (cautiously).
Before you all think I’ve gone full horse and buggy, I am a realist. I know that we, for better or worse, need to use modern-ish technology. I’m fine with that, but when those things have a negative impact on physical, mental, or emotional health, is it really worth it? Honestly. Ask yourself that. Am I just desensitized to this? Or do I genuinely need this? I think if you thought about it enough, you’d be doing this transitional challenge right along with me.
Okay…my guilt trip is over. You’re free to go class (lol). But if I’ve at least piqued your interest, I encourage you to subscribe to my blog…it’s free. That way you can see just how far back I rewind a few things….
